Sign our petition for a Royal Commision

Well intentioned as the current drug prohibition policies may be, they do not protect children. Illicit drugs are more readily available than ever.

We need your help to convince the government that the war on drugs has failed and does more unintended harm than intended good. The war on drugs is actually harming our children.

We call on the Honourable President and members of the Senate assembled on the first day of the new Parliament to establish a Royal Commission to enquiry into:

  • The health, social and economic costs associated with the criminalisation of recreational drug use  including costs associated with organized crime, terrorism and corruption.

Present drug laws harm innocent Australian people. The war on drugs has been a compete failure and a complete waste of police time and taxpayers money. Criminalizing the use of drugs only creates more criminals and with the amount of drugs in prison the problem only gets worse.

    a) The Australian Government should not have to power to be able to tell the citizenry what they can do with their own body; and this should include ingesting foreign substances.

    b) Drug laws should treat drug use as a health issue and not a criminal one. This method only perpetuates itself and makes the war on drugs impossible to win. If you’re sending drug users to live in a small concrete box with murderers, rapists etc. where they’re are more drugs inside than there were outside, you only make the problem worse.

    c) Prohibition on anything never works. America in the 1930’s is an often sighted example but the overall point is; people will never stop doing drugs! People have been doing it long before Australia was a nation and they will still be doing drugs well into the future, so let’s make the solution about proper education, support, harm reduction and decriminalization.

    d) Not all drugs are created equal. Some drugs aren’t dangerous whatsoever and some are evidently medicinal. Making such drugs illegal only turns normal Australian citizens into criminals. The legalization of Marijuana would be a good start but there are more drugs that fit into this category. I believe Australia and the rest of the world should take some cues from

The Netherlands when it comes to drug legalization.

If measures aren’t taken to decriminalize drugs then the problem will only get worse and it will certainly never go away. The push for decriminalization will only get stronger and eventually our government will have to listen. Keep Australia safe, keep Australia free and decriminalize drugs!
